Bicycle Position & Performance Analysis
One of the nagging issues that triathletes revisit at the start of every season is their riding position. Should I be lower on the bars? Is my seat to high or too far forward or back? Maybe you own the latest carbon fibre rocket but you know you could still lose precious time to a rider of equal talent on a lesser steed if your position is poor. It seems like there are far too many fuzzy variables in the bike fit equation and to make matters worse there also seems to be endless free advice on the subject. Roadies will tell you one thing but be very careful who you listen too because time trials sanctioned by the UCI (Union Cyclist Internationale) prevent riders from setting up their bikes for optimal position. This is why you see the guys in the Tour de France sitting on the nose of their saddles - it's because they're not allowed to move the seat forward. Hard to believe, but true nonetheless. As my father always said, free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it so be very careful who you listen too. Better yet come to us for an ergonomic assessment that is objective and scientific.
Peter and I know that the single most important aspect of cycling performance after training is bike setup and positioning. The days of old-school static measurements using a plumbum, string and a few magnets are ancient history; that was 'apriori' thinking that provided a best guess based on anecdotal evidence. With a personal computer and two bio-feedback devices it is now possible to accurately measure output and put an end to the speculation. Our ergonomic and power assessment lab let's you race against yourself while we monitior your heart rate and power output. These values are hard numbers and they don't lie. If you think that you'll be faster with six inches of handlebar drop or an 80 degree seat angle then we'll set you up and you can check out the numbers. Are you getting the most power with a crank length of 172.5 or should you be pushing a longer or shorter arm? When the smoke clears you'll know precisely how you should be positioned. We can then transfer these measurements to your existing bike and make the necessary adjustments or if you're in the market for a new bike we will ensure that you purchase one that fits properly.
The assessment is done in a private session that takes approximately two hours. Please call the store for more information or to book an appointment.
